Dover High captured its first Henlopen Conference volleyball title in 15 years with a 3-0 victory over Lake Forest on Saturday afternoon.
The Northern Division champion Senators downed the South champion Spartans by scores of 25-16, 25-5, 25-12 in a match played at Woodbridge.
It was Dover’s second win over Lake Forest in the past two weeks as it stretched its winning streak to 10 matches in a row.
The last time the Senators won the Henlopen crown was in 2006.
“I knew they could take the conference — not because they wanted it, even though they did, but because they put in the work to get it,” said Dover coach Eric Riehl. “I tried to give them off practice after big wins and they stood there and said ‘No Coach, we want to practice.’
“I am only the coach. I give them the tools and they have to apply it. And they do. I am truly honored and proud to share just a moment in time with this group.”
In Saturday’s match, senior Kim Czepukaitis collected 17 kills, four aces and seven blocks for the Senators (14-2). Also pacing Dover were Kendra Williams (12 kills), Olivia Anyanwu (34 assists), Elizabeth Baughman (5 kills, 5 aces, 11 digs), Olivia Czepukaitis (3 kills, 4 aces,
12 digs), Reese Culver (13 digs) and Jamie Bishop (10 digs).
Lake Forest is 9-7. The DIAA state tournament begins on Thursday.
