Local roundup: Dover girls post lacrosse win over Panthers

Dover High out-scored Polytech by two in the second half to down the Panthers, 9-7, in Henlopen Conference girls’ lacrosse on Wednesday evening.

Superia Clark netted five goals for the Senators (4-1 in conference, 4-2 overall). Kyleigh Dill added three goals, Ashtyn Torbert had a goal and assist while Regan Torbert made 10 saves.

Dover out-shot the Panthers, 20-17, in a contest that was tied 3-3 at halftime.

Polytech got scoring from Madison Todd (3 goals, 1 assist), Claire Fuchs (2 goals) and Elizabeth Szell (1 goal, 1 assist). Adelyn Mollohan made six saves.

Cape Henlopen 18, Smyrna 2: Ten Vikings scored in the Henlopen win, including seven with multiple goals.

Lindsay D’Ambrogi netted three goals for Cape, which led 13-1 at halftime.

Khushi Patel and Madison Fillo scored for the Eagles while Brynn Rifino made seven saves.

Sussex Academy 19, Milford 0: Madison Leeper tallied four goals for the Seahawks, who picked up their third straight shutout.

Annabella Guckes added two goals and five assists for Sussex Academy, which had 11 different players score.

Caravel 20, Indian River 6: Kylie Harris and Drew Szlasa both scored twice with Caylee Schmidt making seven saves for the Indians in the loss.

BOYS, Dover 14, Caravel 7: The Senators built an 8-3 halftime lead before posting the win.

Caesar Rodney 8, Sussex Tech 1: Ryan Carey (3 assists), Patrick Craig (1 assist) and Steven Grossman all scored twice for the Riders in the North victory.

Jakob Buxton made nine saves for CR, which out-scored the Ravens, 6-1, in the second half.

Benjamin Yelverton scored for Sussex Tech, which got 12 saves from Josiah Aiken.

Cape Henlopen 21, Smyrna 4: Gabriel Best netted six goals and four assists in the Vikings’ Henlopen North win.

Henry D’Ambrogi (4 goals, 1 assist), Michael Frederick (3 goals, 1 assist) and Jacob Schell (3 goals) also paced Cape, which led 13-1 at halftime.

Milford 22, Sussex Central 1: Landon Hudson collected four goals and an assist for the Buccaneers with Bryce Wells (2 assists) and Shane Sylvester (1 assist) both scoring three goals in the North win. Brody McMillan made four saves.

Lake Forest 16, Delmar 5: Brandon Tice tallied five goals and an assist in the Spartans’ South victory.

Chaz Hughes added three goals and a pair of assists while Caleb Secrist stopped 10 shots.

Indian River 18, Woodbridge 3: Maxwell Curico netted six goals with Ryan Furman adding four goals and three assists in the Indians’ South win.

Girls’ soccer

Laurel 8, Woodbridge 0: The Bulldogs used a seven-goal first half to take control of the South matchup.

Baseball

Sussex Tech 7, Caesar Rodney 3: The Ravens scored four runs in the sixth to break a 3-3 in the Henlopen North win on Tuesday.

Alex Adams’ homerun put Sussex Tech ahead. Reliever Grant Allen got the final eight outs to earn the win, striking out two batters with the bases loaded in the fifth.

Jaryn Sample had three hits while Malikye Wells, Jason Shockley, Jonathan Stokley and Adams also had multiple hits for the Ravens.

Andrew Rigby, Joshua Harvey and Jacob Armstrong each had multiple hits for the Riders.

Sussex Academy 13, Odyssey Charter 1: The Seahawks finished off the win with a six-run fifth.

Sussex Academy was led by Wyatt Skinner (2 doubles, 2 RBI, 3 runs), Wes McLaughlin (3 hits, 4 RBI, 2 runs) and Ty Hudson (2 hits, 2 runs). Reliever Brayden Tidwell struck out nine in three innings to earn the win.

College softball

Wolverines earn sweep: Dori Loukopoulos threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts as Wesley College blanked Gwynedd-Mercy, 8-0, in the first game of a doubleheader on Tuesday. The Wolverines won the nightcap, 7-6, to improve to 13-1 in the AEC, 15-5 overall.

Shortstop Biana Newsom had four of Wesley’s 16 hits and had three stolen bases in the opener. Loukopoulos added two hits and three RBI.

In the nightcap, Miranda Kinney punched a single through to left field to score Gab Monzo with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Reliever Abbey Mayse earned the win and also knocked in the tying run.

College lacrosse

WOMEN, Marymount 20, Wesley 9: Kassie Dieter netted three goals with Katelyn Porter (Smyrna) making eight saves for the Wolverines in the loss.
