Five players scored goals as Caesar Rodney High blanked Polytech, 5-0, in a Henlopen North girls’ soccer matchup on Saturday.
Kylee Lavere, Erin Hirvela, Jada McCullough, Olivia Hudson and Haley Schafer (1 assist) all scored for the Riders, who led 2-0 at halftime.
Gabrielle DiBartola made seven saves to earn the shutout as CR (3-0 North, 4-3 overall) held advantages of 25-9 in shots and 9-2 in corner kicks.
Delaney Dillon made 13 saves for the Panthers (2-1 North, 6-1 overall), who suffered their first loss.
Milford 2, Dover 0: The Buccaneers scored twice in the second half to pick up the Henlopen North win.
Baseball
St. Georges 6, Sussex Tech 2: Shawn Edevane’s two-run homer capped off a four-run seventh inning for the Hawks, who handed the Ravens (10-1) their first loss.
Pitcher Alex Adams struck out five in six innings for Sussex Tech while Grant Allen had a triple and an RBI.
Delaware Military 8, Sussex Central 7: Mason DeLuca tripled and scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Seahawks on Friday night at Frawley Stadium.
Cole Jester had a pair of hits for the Golden Knights, who used a six-run fourth to take a 6-3 lead.
Middletown 10, Milford 9: Brendan Timmons’ walk-off double completed the Cavaliers’ three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh.
The Buccaneers (9-2), who had a nine-game winning streak snapped, led 9-4 going into the bottom of the sixth. Mason Morris had a homerun and double with James Stangl and Thomas Leighty also collecting two hits.
St. Mark’s 2, Smyrna 1, 10 inn.: The Eagles took the unbeaten Spartans to the 10th inning before falling.
Smyrna tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh.
Archbishop Spalding, Md. 10, Cape Henlopen 6: The Vikings rallied for five runs in the fifth before falling short.
Hunter Rauch hit a three-run homerun for Cape while Justin Marsh had a double, two runs and two stolen bases. Matt Newcomb added a double with an RBI.
Caravel 10, Indian River 4: The Buccaneers scored the final nine runs of the contest to post the win.
Derek Bellemare and Benjamin Cordrey each had a hit and RBI for the Indians.
Delmarva Christian 5, Woodbridge 4: Andreas Caruso singled home Tommy Obertubbesing from second with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh for the Royals.
Riley Culver (3-for-4), who homered, and Nate Keller combined to pitch a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts. Caruso and Nick Dykstra also had multiple hits.
Raiders’ pitcher Derek Cannon struck out five, scored twice and had an RBI.
Boys’ lacrosse
Cape Henlopen 18, Worcester Prep, Md. 9: Henry D’Ambrogi tallied six goals and three assists to pace the Vikings.
Cape Henlopen (6-3), which led 8-0 after the first quarter, was also led by Gabriel Best (3 goals, 2 assists) and Blake Gipko (3 goals, 1 assist). Carson Kammerer made eight saves.
Sussex Academy 20, St. Georges 4: The Seahawks downed the Hawks to improve to 9-0.
Smyrna 10, Wilmington Charter 5: The Eagles evened their record at 5-5 with the victory.
Girls’ lacrosse
Cape Henlopen 18, Worcester Prep, Md. 2: Haley Craig and Carrie Clausius both had four goals and three assists as the Vikings (7-1) won their fifth game in a row.
Emily Monigle added three goals for Cape, which got four saves from Destiny Kusen. The Vikings held a 27-8 edge in shots.
College field hockey
Delaware 3, James Madison 2, OT: Femke Strien scored the game-winning goal 6:56 into overtime to give the Blue Hens the CAA title and a berth in the NCAA Division I playoffs.
Delaware (6-3) tied the contest on a goal by Julia Duffhuis off of a penalty corner with less than a minute left in regulation. Ashlyn Carr (Delmar) and Emily Kresho assisted on the goal. Carr tallied the first goal for the Hens in the 39th minute.
Strien was named the Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
College lacrosse
MEN, Delaware 16, Towson 8: The Blue Hens (9-2, 6-1 CAA) picked up their sixth win in CAA play, a program-best mark. The 16 goals were the most the Hens scored against the Tigers since 1999.
Cam Acchione scored a career-high five goals on just five shots. Mike Robinson needed just four shots to tally three goals.
College softball
Drexel 3, Delaware 2: Drexel scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pick up the CAA win.
Brooke Glanden (Lake Forest) had an RBI single and a double for the Blue Hens.
