Camden-Wyoming posted an 8-2 victory over Naamans to win the state championship in Junior League baseball on Friday evening.

The District I champions went 3-0 in the tournament played in Georgetown, allowing a total of just four runs.

On Friday, Teegan Monroney had a big game for Camden-Wyoming, going 3-for-3 with a homerun, triple, four RBI and three runs scored. Steven Donigan and Colby Rall both pitched for C-W.

There is no regional in the Junior League age group this summer.

Camden-Wyoming 10, Lewes-Rehoboth 3: The District I champions scored the final eight runs of the game on Friday night to reach the state finals.

Camden-Wyoming (1-1) will host Canal (2-0) today at 7 p.m. for the state title. C-W needs a win to force a second state championship game on Sunday.

In Friday’s victory, reliever Quin Collins didn’t allow a run over the final four innings. Jay Sanchez, who homered, and Makai Parker both had three RBI for Camden-Wyoming while Cam Allen and Zayne Collins both doubled.

Nick Clampet, Jack Simeone and Noah Miafabzyeu each had a hit for Lewes-Rehoboth.

8-10 State Tournament

M.O.T. 10, Naamans 6: District I champion M.O.T. captured the state championship with the victory on Thursday night.

The Middletown-area squad went 3-0 in the three-team tourney, scoring at least 10 runs in every game and finishing with 33 in the event.

Thursday’s contest was tied 6-6 when Cody Bakhsh’s two-run double in the fifth put M.O.T. ahead to stay. Ayden Markiewicz went 3-for-4 while Kevin Koerner and Charlie Koch both collected multiple hits.

Starting pitcher Nate Collins struck out eight in four innings before Colton Murray allowed only one hit over the final two innings to close out the victory.

American Legion

DE Post 1 takes state title: Third-seeded DE Post 1 survived a second championship game before winning the American Legion state tile with a 10-0 win over top-seeded Stahl Post 30 on Thursday.

Stahl Post 30 downed DE Post 1, 11-1, earlier in the day to force a second title game.

DE Post 1 moves on to the Mid-Atlantic Regional, which starts on Aug 4 as Asheboro, N.C.

College basketball

UD men earn academic honor: The University of Delaware men’s basketball program has been honored with the National Association of Basketball Coaches Team Academic Excellence Award, created by the NABC Committee on Academics.

The award recognizes outstanding academic achievement by a team with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better for the 2020-21 academic year.

To earn the NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, institutions must count the grade point averages of all men’s student-athletes on the basketball roster during the 2020-21 season.

Seven Blue Hens were named to the CAA Academic Honor Roll this year: Gianmarco Arletti, Ebby Asamoah, Davis Long, Jameer Nelson, Jr., Aleks Novakovich, O.D. Ogunbo, and Fred Rullo IV. Long, Novakovich and Dylan Painter were selected to the NABC Honors Court on Tuesday.
