Local roundup: Appoquinimink tops Cape Henlopen 37-0 in 3A football tourney

Seventh-seeded Appoquinimink High tallied 19 first-half points before downing No. 10 Cape Henlopen, 37-0, in the first round of the DIAA Class 3A football state tournament on Saturday night.

The victory send the Jaguars to a rematch with crosstown rival Middletown. The second-seeded Cavaliers (7-1) will host Appo (6-5) on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Vikings finish the season with a record of 1-10.

Tower Hill 14, Sussex Tech 0: Seventh-seeded Tower Hill scored a touchdown in each half before blanking No. 10 Sussex Tech in the first round of the DIAA Class 2A tournament.

The Hillers (8-2) move on to face No. 2 Woodbridge (10-0) on Friday at 7 p.m. in Bridgeville in the tourney’s quarterfinals.

The Ravens finish the season with a record of 6-5.

College basketball

MEN, UNCW 67, Delaware State 63: The Hornets couldn’t hang onto a 12-point, first-half lead before falling to the Seahawks at Memorial Hall.

Fifth-year guard Myles Carter recorded a 24-point, 10-rebound double-double to lead all players in both categories. Carter shot 11-of-19 from the field.

Delaware State (2-3) still led 42-34 in the second half before UNCW went on an 18-7 run to take the lead for good.

Dominik Fragala and Corey Perkins also reached double figures in points with 13 and 12, respectively. Perkins dished out a team-best four assists.

Mike Okauru led UNCW with 22 points, sinking a game-best four three-pointers.
