DELMAR — With the three premier dirt-track divisions in action, a big crowd turned out at Delaware International Speedway on Saturday night.

Davie Franek didn’t panic as he caught Curt Michael late in the race to win the URC Sprint main.

When nine-time URC champion Michael started on the pole, there were some people who thought the outcome of the race was a done deal.

And, sure enough, Michael quickly opened up a straightaway lead.

But point leader Davie Franek, who started in seventh, was on the move. He took third on lap nine and, one lap later, got by Bill Unglert for second.

Michael worked his way past the back markers but, as he marched farther through the field, the battles in front of him gave him more concern. Franek took advantage of the situation and, with four laps to go, split a lapped car with Michael to take the lead.

Once out front Franek opened a comfortable lead and drove to the win.

“The cars were much faster in clean air,” said Franek. “I was hoping that once Michael caught lapped traffic it would slow him down and it did.”

In victory lane, two-time URC champion, Garry Gollub was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Jordan Watson started seventh in the Big Block Modified feature but was quickly up to third. By lap seven, Watson moved by Brandon Watkins for the lead.

Watson momentarily lost the lead to Matt Jester with just five laps remaining. Watson, though, quickly regrouped and reclaimed the top spot before posting his second-straight victory.

Late in the Super Late Model feature, leader Donald Lingo Jr. was solidly in control on the bottom. But Ricky Elliott continued to work the top groove and with, five to go, was able to get by Lingo for the lead.

Elliott then moved to the bottom and open up some breathing room, allowing him to post his second win of the season.

“Jake Marine bought me this new car two weeks ago,” said Elliott. “He has been great to me and instrumental in furthering my career.”

In the 15-lap RUSH Crate Late Model main, Sparky White mounted a challenge on leadr Trevor Collins and, with two to go, got underneath for the lead. David Pettyjohn followed into second and chased White to the checkered before White got the win.

In the 15-lap AC Delco PSC 602 Sportsman feature, Joe Tracy got to Ryan Riddle’s rear bumper but no further in the closing laps. Riddle notched his first career win in the division.

James Hill originally picked up the victory in the 15-lap Mod Lite main. But was penalized 10 positions per the rule book for switching cars between the heat and feature and not reporting it to the handicapper in the pits.

Tim White was credited with the win.

Larkin wins Bad 8

There was some quick racing Friday night under the full moon at U.S. 13 Dragway.

Mike Larkin of Salisbury, Md., set Low E.T. and top speed in the Bad 8 Open Wheel qualifying with a 6.946/192.80 and then went on to win the final against Eric Mason of Pocomoke, Md.

Billy Groton of Seaford faced Dover’s Vernon Russell for the second week in a row and won the Bad 8 Full Body.

W.R. Ketterman of Salisbury qualified second and then went on to win Top ET. Other winners on the night included Ben Garnett of Smyrna in Mod ET; Drew Birch of Whaleyville, Md., in Pro Bike; Gary Stickles of Delmar, Md., in Street; Jerry Wilkerson of Delmar in Hot Rod; Cole Foskey of Rhodesdale, Md., in Jr. Dragster 1 and Brett Holston of Felton in Jr. Dragster 2.

Larkin faced Mason in the Bad 8 Open Wheel final. Mason had the better reaction but broke out with a 7.171/185.45 on a 7.18 dial.

Larkin got the win with a blistering 6.938/192.59 on a 6.92 dial.

The Bad 8 Full Body was a rematch of the week prior with Groton paired against Russell. Groton had a .008 reaction light and drove his Camaro to the win with an 8.527/154.82 on an 8.48 dial. Russell had an 8.713/154.79 on an 8.66 dial.
