Lewis scores 23, leads Lake to victory

Cameron Lewis scored 23 points as Lake Forest High posted a 71-48 win over Laurel in Henlopen Conference Southern Division boys’ basketball on Tuesday night.

Isaiah Morris added 18 points while Kobe Mumford had 10 for Lake Forest (7-6 overall), which outscored the Bulldogs by at least four points in all four quarters.

The Spartans avenged a one-point loss to Laurel early in the season. Morris made three of Lake’s six three-pointers.

Eric Pilot (14 points), who sank three threes, and Brandon Faulk (10) led Laurel.

Sussex Central 49, Dover 48: Trailing by two, the Golden Knights outscored the Senators, 14-11, in the fourth quarter to pull out the North win.

Ethan Lambert led Central with 20 points.

Jhalil Mosley (15 points) and Stefan Rush-Wilson (12) both scored in double figures for Dover.

Milford 60, Delmar 47: Tymire Riddick netted 29 points, including five three-pointers, to pace the Buccaneers to the South victory.

Milford led by only three points at halftime before outscoring the Wildcats, 23-11, in the third quarter. Brion Murray added 12 points, sinking the Bucs’ other two threes.

Brooks Parker had a team-high 20 points for the Wildcats.

Smyrna 69, Sussex Tech 39: Caleb Matthews scored 25 points as the Eagles remained unbeaten in the Henlopen North.

Anthony Watson also scored 15 points for Smyrna, which led 34-20 at halftime.

Woodbridge 56, Sussex Academy 0: The Raiders earned a one-sided Henlopen South victory.

Girls’ basketball

Polytech 53, Cape Henlopen 41: The Panthers jumped out to a 14-point halftime advantage before putting away the Henlopen North victory.

Tamia Mathias (15 points), Yaa Afriyie (12) and Courtney Turner (11) all finished in double figures.

Cape’s Dania Cannon tallied a team-high 15 points.

Sussex Tech 61, Smyrna 38: Rukiya Davis’ game-high 19 points sparked the Ravens’ Henlopen North victory.

Davis sank three three-pointers for Sussex Tech, which also got 10 points from Mi’Cah Shelton. The Ravens outscored Smyrna, 23-7, in the second quarter to break open a one-point game.

Melenda Credle netted 17 points for the Eagles.

Sussex Central 48, Dover 46: The Golden Knights edged the Senators in a Henlopen North matchup.

Indian River 54, Seaford 32: Sophomore Julia Jordan netted a career-high 19 points to go along with 17 rebounds in the Indians’ Henlopen South win.

Junior Braydee Whitman also scored a career high with 11 points, seven rebounds and three blocks for IR, wjch led 22-11 at halftime.

Tamar Evans and Tomajah Whaley tallied 16 points each to account for all of the Blue Jays’ scoring.

Laurel 62, Lake Forest 42: The Bulldogs downed the Spartans in a Henlopen South contest.

College indoor track & field

Wesley’s Taylor honored: Wesley College senior Greg Taylor was named Capital Athletic Conference Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.

Taylor placed second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.95 seconds. Taylor also recorded a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash, clocking a time of 22.73.

His 60-meter time ranks 13th in the nation while his 200-meter mark ranks 34th in the young season.
