LETTER TO THE EDITOR: God can't be pushed aside, but people do themselves

In regard to Marjorie C. Davis’, “God has been pushed aside in today’s society,” I couldn’t agree more with what she wrote if than if I had written it myself, except for the heading. I would have preferred something like “Today’s society has pushed itself aside from God.” Why? Simply because God is God. This may seem trite to some, and if it does, it is due to their much dismissing of Him. There are those who in one way or another, make a mockery of the existence of God, some to a greater degree and some to a lesser degree. No matter what these mockers may do or believe, they have a warning in the Bible in Galatians 6:7, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man (or society) sows, that he (or it) will also reap,” that has to be pondered before or at their point of death. It is today’s society that has pushed itself aside from God as outlined in Romans 1:18-32, in the Bible. God is too powerful to ever be pushed aside. In the Bible, He made Himself known as THE Almighty Go (Genesis 17:1; 35:11; Exodus 6:3) and is referred to as such numerous other times. He has the power to do anything and everything at any time. He is omnipotent (Matthew 19:26). God has infinite knowledge of everything going on internationally, nationally, locally and personally. He is omniscient (I John 3:20; Proverbs 15:3). He is also everywhere present. He is omnipresent (Psalm 138:7-12; Acts 17:24-28). Jesus pretty well summed it up in Matthew 19:26: “ … with God all things are possible.” These are the Natural Attributes of God in theology. “To whom then will you liken God? Or what likeness will you compare to him? (Isaiah 40: 18, 25). Would man (humankind) as dust (Genesis 2:7; 3:19), as grass (Isaiah 40:6), or in his (its) best state (Psalm 39:5) as a vapor or shadow? Would any of the nations, which all of them are considered as a drop in a bucket, or dust, or less than nothing and worthless (Isaiah 4:15, 17)? According to the Apostle Paul under diving inspiration in Acts 17:26, it is God who foreordained the boundaries and history (times) of the nations where people would from societies. Society push God aside? Not a chance, never! And if the aforementioned Natural Attributes were not enough to show God’s almightiness, then, consider the following. According to the viewpoint of Creationism based upon the biblical account of the creation of man (humankind), God formed (Hebrew “yatsar,” structured) him of the dust of the ground and breathed (Hebrew “haphach,” to puff) into his nostrils (Hebrew “aph,” nose) the breath (Hebrew “neshamah,” puff of air) of life, and man became a living soul (Hebrew “nephash,” a breathing creature), Genesis 2:7. Just a puff of common, ordinary air that every human being breathes every day in order to stay alive, or else. That some of us as newborn babes have had our little bottoms firmly slapped to get us crying in order for us to gasp for that air in inflate our little lungs and become little breathing creatures. This common, ordinary air that is so taken for granted is given by God to the people of the earth, according to Isaiah 42:5, and according to Acts 17:5 to all (Greek “pasin,” everyone). It may not be too far-fetched to biblically believe, especially fundamental Christians, that this air could be the breath of God that we breathe every day. Just a thought. God is everywhere present wherever there is a breathing creature. He is omnipresent. Marjorie C. Davis made reference to her concern of how America has been transformed in her slightly more than eight decades of her life. I, too, share with her that same concern as I recently, the 6th, began the last year of my eight decades, and having taught 30 years within that time U.S. history, American government and economics, I especially became aghast [at] how today’s society has pushed itself further aside from God in the last seven years. Rest assured that it isn’t God being pushed aside, or how else can all the rotten things that have happened be explained or understood? They happen by society pushing itself aside from God.
