Jay Leno, Chicago highlight Freeman Stage summer season

SELBYVILLE — Comedian and former "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno, Chicago and Mary Chapin Carpenter highlight this summer’s 10th season schedule at The Freeman Stage at Bayside.

Other national acts include Tedeschi Trucks Band on June 17; Baltimore Ravens kicker and opera singer Justin Tucker on June 18; The Stray Cats’ Lee Rocker on June 24; comedian Jay Leno on June 30; The O’Jays on July 1; country music’s Dustin Lynch and Granger Smith on July 6; Blues Traveler on July 11; The Wallflowers and Better than Ezra on July 12; blues great Gary Clark Jr. on July 17; country-pop singer Hunter Hayes on July 28; Michael Franti & Spearhead on July 29; Tony winner Sutton Foster on July 30; Chicago on Aug. 1; Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue on Aug. 3; Mary Chapin Carpenter on Aug. 8 and jazz’s Joey Alexander Trio on Aug. 12.

Mr. Leno will perform on June 30, Chicago on Aug. 1 and Ms. Chapin Carpenter on Aug. 8.

“This year’s lineup showcases the heart of our mission and is a beautiful mix of performances. We hope our patrons take a chance and experience a different genre — whether its through dance, with hip hop or ballet performances; classical, blues, rock, country or jazz,” said Patti Grimes, executive director of the Joshua M. Freeman Foundation.

“The diversity is a great way to celebrate our 10th season as we continue to create opportunities to elevate the human spirit and be a vital source of exceptional cultural experiences.”

The Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, the First State Ballet, Clear Space Theatre and Brown Box Theatre Company will return this season.

“Locals Under the Lights,” where local artists have their moment in the spotlight, will also be back this summer.

Performers new to the outdoor stage include the Church Sisters, The Weight Band, playing songs of The Band; and Shades of Bublé, a tribute to Michael Bublé.

Tribute acts include Kashmir, a Led Zeppelin show; Jessie’s Girl, an ’80s tribute; Hollywood Night: A Bob Seger Experience; 50th Anniversary — Summer of Love; ABBA The Concert; Invincible, a Michael Jackson tribute and The Fab Four, a Beatles tribute.

On Sept. 8, Bruce in the USA, a Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band tribute act, will return to perform and special guests from Operation SEAs the Day — a week-long beach event for wounded veterans and their families — will be in attendance.

The Freeman Stage at Bayside, is located in the Bayside community at the intersections of Routes 54 and 20.

Freeman will kick off this season at 7 p.m. May 27 with a performance by the Bindlestiff Family Cirkus. Regular weekly performances will continue with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra on June 16.
