DOVER — Investigation into a shooting that wounded three people on Delaware State University’s campus in April is ongoing, school officials said on Thursday.

The Delaware State University Police Department is probing firearms-related incidents on April 18 and 19, assisted by the Dover Police Department and Delaware State Police, according to school spokesman Carlos Holmes.

The first incident came at 8 p.m. during a Saturday night gathering of approximately 3,000, DSU officials said at the time, and sent three people to the hospital. None of the injured persons were connected to DSU, according to the school.

At 1:15 a.m. Sunday, police responded to reported shots fired near the University Courtyard Apartments on State College Road. No injuries occurred.

In response to a media inquiry for an update earlier this week, Mr. Holmes released a DSU statement regarding investigation into the shooting incident.

“Please be advised that at this time the university has no additional information that it is able to share regarding this incident as it remains an active investigation,” the statement began.

“Delaware State University continues to work with Delaware State Police and the Dover Police Department in support of this investigation. The university is particularly grateful to the police of both (agencies) for their timely and appropriate responses and for their continued investigation into these events.

“It is with this type of support that we can continue to ensure the safety of those who are on our campus, which is our highest priority.

“We encourage anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the DSU Police Department at (302) 857-7911.”

Two Dover residents were arrested and indicted after a Nov. 3, 2014, shooting at DSU’s Living and Learning Commons residence hall just north of main campus next to U.S. 13, the Delaware Department of Justice said.

The shootings were part of a long-running rash of 22 shootings and/or homicides within Dover’s city limits within approximately the past 10 months; city police have investigated 18 incidents, state and DSU police two each.

There have been four homicides in Dover in 2015, and seven overall since a man died less than a month after a July 23, 2014, stabbing.
