SMYRNA — A 32-year-old Smyrna man has been indicted on a first-degree murder charge in the death of his wife, the Delaware Attorney General’s office said Wednesday.

A Kent County grand jury also indicted Cortez A. Hamilton on charges of possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, the attorney general’s office said.

According to authorities, Keisha S. Hamilton, 35, of Smyrna, has been missing since Jan. 10.

On Jan. 10, Mr. Hamilton was arrested in Indiana on charges of assault, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, officials said.

On Jan. 22 he was extradited to Delaware, arraigned at JP Court 2 and held at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna on a $402,000 cash bond.

On Monday, Mr. Hamilton was indicted on the new charges after a Delaware State Police investigation, the attorney general’s office said.

Office spokesman Carl Kanefsky said Mr. Hamilton would next appear in court for arraignment on the murder charge.

“At that time, bail will be set and he will enter a plea,” Mr. Kanefsky said. “As of now, I do not have a date.”

The Public Defender’s office is representing Mr. Hamilton, according to the attorney general’s office.

While Ms. Hamilton is considered missing, the Delaware State Police are searching for her, authorities said.

“The Delaware State Police are continuing the search for Keisha Hamilton while keeping the Gold Alert active,” spokesman Sgt. Richard Bratz said. “This case is active and ongoing.”

The attorney general’s news release noted, “Hamilton’s wife, Keisha Hamilton is still missing, but prosecutors believe there is sufficient evidence to bring the murder charge.”

State police said in January that Mr. Hamilton was located in Indiana in connection with an Amber Alert. His children, ages 4 years and 2 months, were safe and in the immediate care of Indiana’s Division of Family Services at the time, according to authorities.

Police said in an earlier news release that Ms. Hamilton was last seen at her residence in the Twin Willows Development at approximately 10 p.m. on Jan. 9.
