DOVER – Delaware State Police are investigating a Wednesday night hit-and-run crash involving a horse and buggy.
The incident happened around 10 p.m. Wednesday northwest of Dover, as a 44-year-old male was in control of a horse-drawn Amish buggy stopped on Sharon Hill Road at the intersection with West Denneys Road. Police said the horse may have become spooked and jutted out into the eastbound travel lane of West Denneys Road and was struck by an unknown make and model vehicle traveling eastbound.
The driver of the vehicle failed to stop after colliding with the horse and continued eastbound on West Denneys Road.
The Amish driver was uninjured, but the horse sustained fatal wounds and died at the scene.
Police ask that anyone with information or who are able to provide a vehicle description to contact Cpl. C. Nicholson at (302) 378-5749.
