DOVER — A preliminary hearing for a 21-year-old Dover man facing felony firearms charges after a police-involved shooting last week was delayed after a request by the Office of the Public Defender.

Terrance Fletcher, of the 100 block of Governors Avenue, was scheduled to appear in the Kent County Court of Common Pleas on Friday morning before Judge Anne Reigle, but the case was continued. It was moved to Sept. 11, officials said.

Mr. Fletcher was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by person prohibited on Aug. 28 after he allegedly held a loaded gun while fleeing from Dover Police Department officers.

Mr. Fletcher was shot by an officer as he emerged from an alley, police said, and suffered a non-life threatening wound to the upper thigh. He is being held by the Delaware Department of Correction.

A Delaware Department of Justice spokesman said the continuance request “was not at all unusual.”

Also, Ms. Fletcher is wanted in West Virginia for a felony case, officials said earlier. He was being sought after failing to appear for a court date, according to authorities.

Also continued until next Friday was the preliminary hearing of Eric Stewart, 23, of the 100 block of South New

Street in Dover, who was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after a crowd of possibly 300 or more by police estimates gathered in the 100 block of South New Street as law enforcement investigated the shooting.

The next night, police said, Mr. Stewart was one of six men arrested as officers responded to a reported large fight involving over 50 people in the Manchester Square neighborhood. Charges filed included possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, riot and loitering.

Michael Benson, 40, of the 400 block of South Queen Street in Dover, was charged with offensive touching on a police officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct during the Aug. 28 incident. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Oct. 14 in the Court of Common Pleas.
