HARRINGTON — A hit-and-run left a 53-year-old Harrington man dead Friday night.

Delaware State Police said the incident occurred when the man, who authorities did not initially identify, was crossing U.S. 13 from west to east just south of the intersection with Corn Crib Road.

While in the northbound right lane, he was hit by an unknown vehicle, according to police.

The man was thrown to the shoulder and discovered by a passing motorist, while the vehicle that struck him continued north.

The victim was taken to Milford Memorial Hospital and pronounced deceased there.

Police said he was not utilizing a crosswalk and was wearing dark clothing but had a small flashlight. Impairment on his behalf is unknown at this time.

Authorities did not say when exactly the incident occurred.

State police said the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding the incident or the fleeing vehicle is asked to contact Sgt. J. Wheatley of the Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit at 698-8518.
