DOVER — A Kent County Grand Jury indicted a former Dover Little League president on five felony charges earlier this week following a summertime investigation into alleged misuse of the organization’s finances.
William M. Berry is facing single counts of theft, theft by false pretense, and unlawful use of payment card in Kent
County Superior Court, and two counts of forgery, according to court papers.
The theft charge brought by the Delaware Department of Justice resulted from alleged “misappropriating cash withdraws using Dover Little League” debit/credit card, according to court documents.
The forgery counts stem from Dover Little League bank checks that were allegedly misused, the indictment alleges.
According to court papers, the alleged theft came between July 4 and July 12.
Police earlier alleged that the league’s credit card was used for unauthorized purchases of more than $4,000.
Mr. Berry was 52 at the time Dover Police Department announced his arrest on Sept. 11. Authorities listed his address as in the 100 block of Greenbriar Drive.
According to police at the time, Mr. Berry was accompanied by a lawyer when he turned himself in to Dover Police on Sept. 11.
He was released on $7,000 unsecured bond.
