Tonight’s DIAA girls’ soccer state championship doubleheader at Smyrna High has been postponed because of the threat of bad weather.
The Division II finals between Indian River and Caravel (5 p.m.) and the Division I title game between Caesar Rodney and Padua are now slated to be played on Tuesday night at Smyrna.
In announcing the decision, DIAA executive director Kevin Charles said he normally doesn’t like to postpone events based solely on weather forecasts.
“Every weather service we’ve checked calls for heavy rain and thunderstorms in Smyrna during the period of time the games will be played tonight,” he wrote. “Conversely, the forecast for Smyrna tomorrow (Tuesday) looks like perfect soccer weather, cloudy with temps in the upper sixties and minimal chance of precipitation.
“So we are making the change early in hopes that everyone can have a more enjoyable experience tomorrow night.”
