GEORGETOWN – A 45-year-old Georgetown man faces a seventh DUI charge and other offenses after police found him to be intoxicated and impaired at the wheel with a child in the vehicle on Halloween night.

Heriberto Acebedo was arrested Thursday, Oct. 31 following a traffic stop for a mechanical violation, according to Georgetown Police Department spokesman Det. Joey Melvin.

The traffic stopped occurred at about 8:30 p.m. in the area of North Street.

Upon contact, police determined the driver appeared to be intoxicated and showed multiple signs of impairment, Det. Melvin said.

An inquiry by officers revealed that Acebedo had six previous DUI convictions.

A 12-year-old juvenile was found to be a passenger in the vehicle and two other children, ages 10 and 2, had been left at Acebedo’s residence alone, Det. Melvin said.

Georgetown police charged Acebedo with a 7th DUI offense, which is a felony, Driving Without a License, and three charges of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

Acebedo was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution due to his intoxicated state, Det. Melvin said.
