HARRINGTON - A wanted 25-year-old man accused of slightly injuring a police officer while fleeing in a vehicle last month was apprehended on Thursday morning, police said when announcing the arrest later in the day.

John E. Pauley was taken into custody without incident at a residence in the 300 block of Jefferson Woods Drive in Harrington, the Dover Police Department said. Dover PD, the US Marshall’s Delaware Task Force and Delaware State Police Governor’s Task Force took part in the operation, according to spokesman Cpl. Mark Hoffman.

According to police, an officer suffered a minor hand injury on June 26 as Mr. Pauley allegedly fled during an arrest attempt in the area of Independence Boulevard and Lamplighter Lane in Dover.

The sequence unfolded at approximately 9:32 a.m. when an officer first made a traffic stop after a driver allegedly ran a stop sign, police said. Further investigation found that Mr. Pauley was wanted on “numerous” capiases out of Superior Court, including a violation of probation, authorities said.

Mr. Pauley allegedly fled northbound on Independence Boulevard in an unregistered gray 2001 Chevrolet 2500 truck, police said.

Police said pending charges included second-degree assault, resisting arrest with force/violence (injures police officer), disregard police officer signal, and numerous alleged traffic violations.

Bail information was not available early Thursday afternoon as Mr. Pauley was being processed at Dover PD.

While police initially listed Mr. Pauley as a Milford resident in June, authorities said they now believed he was living at the Jefferson Wood Drive residence where he was arrested.

Cpl. Hoffman said Mr. Pauley was located through “investigative techniques” and he could not elaborate on how the US Marshall’s contributed to the search.

Police said information was not immediately available regarding the status of the Chevrolet truck Mr. Pauley allegedly fled in.
