CAMDEN — Four people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries Wednesday morning after a three vehicle crash involving a state police vehicle, authorities said.

According to the Delaware State Police, preliminary investigation found that a 27-year-old trooper was driving a fully marked 2011 Ford Crown Victoria that struck a Chevrolet Colorado as it was traveling across soutbound lanes of U.S. 13 to make a turn at the intersection of Old North Road at approximately 7:13 a.m..

The Chevrolet’s driver, Alice Harmon, 39, of Dover, was taken by EMS to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital where she was admitted with non-life threatening injuries, police said. The initial impact caused the Chevrolet to spin counterclockwise and strike a Dodge Dart, police said; the trooper’s vehicle struck a utility pole with its right front wheel.

The Chevrolet stopped at the side of southbound U.S. 13, police said, and the Dodge made a controlled stop on the shoulder.

The police vehicle had its emergency lights and siren operating at the time of impact, authorities said, and it was responding to another trooper’s request for immediate assistance in Woodside.

Lisa Locey, 46, of Magnolia, who was driving the Dodge, was taken to Kent General with minor injuries and released, according to authorities.

The trooper was taken by EMS to Kent General with non-life threatening injuries, treated and released.

All three drivers and the passenger involved were wearing seatbelts, police said, and alcohol was not considered a factor in the crash.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit continued to investigate the incident on Wednesday. Authorities said U.S. 13 southbound traffic was impacted for roughly three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

No further details were available Thursday and state police spokesman Sgt. Richard Bratz described the investigation as “active and ongoing.”
