Fire kills one, damages home near Milton

MILTON — The Delaware Office of the State Fire Marshal on Sunday investigated a morning fire that heavily damaged a house near Milton.

One person was found deceased inside the burning home, Assistant State Fire Marshal Michael G. Chionchio said.

Mr. Chionchio said the blaze, reported shortly before 10 a.m., occurred in the 26000 block of Prime Hook Road.

The Milton Fire Company arrived on the scene with flames shooting out of the two-story home, Mr. Chionchio said. Firefighters found one person inside the house. Two other occupants were transported to the Milford Memorial Hospital after jumping from a second-floor bedroom.

State fire investigators were on the scene Sunday searching for the fire’s origin and cause. The victim was transferred to the custody of the Division of Forensic Science. An autopsy is scheduled for today,

A 10-year-old male and 39-year-old female were treated and released from the Milford Memorial Hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and contusions.

Heavy fire damage is estimated at $50,000.
