FELTON — A weekend death first termed “suspicious” by Delaware State Police has now been ruled a homicide.

After notifying next of kin, police publicly identified Douglas M. Kimball Jr., 48, of Felton, as the victim of multiple gunshot wound to the upper torso. His body was discovered Sunday night after troopers were called to a residence west of Felton for a welfare check.

Troopers arrived at Mr. Kimball’s home in the 1000 block of Cabin Ridge Road at approximately 10:45 p.m. and found him dead in the living room, state police spokesman Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said.

Friends had been become concerned after not hearing from him since Saturday, and contacted police.

Mr. Kimball was removed from his home and police contacted the Delaware Division of Forensic Science. After an autopsy, it was found that Mr. Kimball died from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso, police said Thursday.

Citing the nature of an ongoing investigation, Cpl. Fournier would not disclose whether there were any signs of a forced entry, but said “this is not being investigated as a random act.”

Police said investigation was continuing through interviews and evidence collection. According to Cpl. Fournier, more information and investigative details would be released when available.

Speaking generally, Cpl. Fournier said, “Time is of essence in any investigation, but in a homicide investigation, evidence gathering and any potential witness accounts, must be examined and processed immediately in order to maintain the continuity of the investigation.

“Getting the information out to the public through media outlets and social media also assist detectives in potentially solving the cases as tips begin to come in allowing them to follow those leads.”
