FAME Inc. to celebrate capital campaign for Learning Lab

WILMINGTON — The Forum to Advance Minorities in Engineering Inc. is celebrating the public phase of its capital campaign to develop the Learning Lab: A Destination for Academics, Workforce Development, and Innovation, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its headquarters on Baynard Boulevard.

FAME Inc. received $2.8 million through the 2022 state Bond Bill’s community redevelopment fund.

The Learning Lab aims to create a space for the community, producing a one-stop hub for learners to access internet service and computers/laptops, seek academic credit recovery, participate in regionally approved job training/certification initiatives, and engage in innovative technologies, to secure employment opportunities.

FAME Inc. plans to retrofit a 17,000-square-foot headquarters.

The first floor will become the Career Confidence Center and include career and workforce development programs. The second floor will house the administrative suite of offices, while providing conference and workspace for industry partners.

The third-floor renovations will focus on the development of the learning labs, which will include a series of spaces focused on computer programming, biotechnology, media, food sciences and chemistry. The lab will also feature a virtual reality lab space allowing visitors to explore and learn in real time.

Renovations are expected to begin this winter. For information about supporting this initiative, contact Grace Greenwich in the Office of Development at ggreenwich@fameinc.org or call 302-777-3254.
