DOVER — Members of Delaware’s congressional delegation will hold a grant fair and workshop Monday at Delaware State University.

The event is free and is designed to help citizens learn how to secure grant funding from the government, businesses and nonprofits. It will take place from 9 to 2 at the MLK Student Center at Delaware State.

“The grants fair is a key component for Delaware non-profit and community organizations to come together under one roof, exchange ideas, develop relationships and sharpen skills to gain a better understanding of the federal grant process,” U.S. Sen. Chris Coons said. “The small business owners, entrepreneurs and non-profits will hear from experts and grantors who will help them explain the sometimes complex process and will put them on the right path to gaining federal funding for their organizations.”

From 10 to 11, grants.gov will be discussed. That will be followed by grant writing 101 from 11 to 12 and best practices in grant writing from 1 to 2.

Among the organizations that will be present are the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Discover Bank, the U.S. Small Business Administration, Faith Based Nonprofit Resource Center, the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development, WSFS Bank, M&T Bank, Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh, the Delaware Department of Health and Human Services, Regulation Solutions, Inc., and the Delaware Division of the Arts

Also, the federal Environmental Protection Agency, Longwood Foundation, the U.S. Department Of Agriculture, FEMA Hazard Mitigation Assistance and FEMA Fire Grants.

“As our faculty here at Delaware State University has learned, there is a lot that goes into successful federal grant writing,” DSU President Harry Williams said.

“And just as this university has been able to obtain millions of dollars in federal grants, this unique opportunity will provide others with valuable information and insight that could bring more federal dollars into Delaware.”
