FELTON – An overturned dump truck has shut down northbound U.S. 13 south of the Canterbury light this morning.
Delaware State Police said in a press release this morning that the single-vehicle crash, involving a fully loaded dump truck, occurred around 8:12 a.m. this morning, as Joshua F. Lineweaver, 27, of Seaford, was operating a 1985 Ford dump truck northbound on U.S. 13 in the left lane approaching Irish Hill Road.
According to police, the truck swerved from the left lane across the right lane and off the highway into a farm field where the truck overturned on its passenger side, spilling stone into the field.
Mr. Lineweaver, who was not properly restrained police said, was trapped temporarily in the cab of the truck before being transported to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital in Dover where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
He was cited for failure to remain within a single lane, police said.
Crews from the Delaware Department of Transportation and the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control are assisting with the clean-up from the fuel spill as well as the removal of the stone and upright the truck.
Currently the right lane of U.S. 13 northbound is closed in the area. Information regarding the opening of the lane can be followed at http://deldot.gov/information/travel_advisory/#trafficBox1.
