DOVER — A Dover man pleaded guilty to third-degree assault in connection with a shots-fired investigation at Bubba’s Nightclub in early 2015, and was credited for prison time served as a sentence, his lawyer said.

Agmere Matthews, of the 300 block of Nimitz Road, made the plea Feb. 29 in exchange for person prohibited weapons and riot charges not being prosecuted, according the defense counsel Andre Beauregard.

Mr. Beauregard said up to 57 years in prison were possible if the case went to trial.

Matthews served approximately a year in prison, he said.

“He was not guilty of the gun charge, but he was guilty of being with the wrong people,” Mr. Beauregard said.

Matthews was 21 at the time of an incident on Feb. 8, 2015, at 865 N. DuPont Highway that left one man with minor injuries treated at the hospital, Dover Police Department said earlier. He was arrested without incident on Feb. 20, 2015.

Initial charges by Dover Police also included criminal mischief, reckless endangering (two counts), possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of felony, possession of a deadly weapon by person prohibited and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.
