DOVER — A Kent County Grand Jury has returned a six-count indictment against a Dover man accused of operating a clandestine laboratory related to the methamphetamine trade, according to court papers.

Charles B. Hitchens was arrested without incident at his home on Janes Circle on Sept. 25.

Dover Police Department said an alleged clandestine lab was dismantled by a DNREC Hazmat Special Response Team.

Police alleged the Janes Circle location was used to produce and distribute methamphetamine.

Mr. Hitchens, 51 at the time of his arrest, was indicted on charges of operating or attempting to operate a clandestine laboratory, maintaining a drug property, second-degree conspiracy, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Besides Dover Police and DNREC, members of the Delaware State Police, Delaware Probation and Parole, and the South Little Creek Fire Department took part in search warrants involving two potential clandestine laboratories, authorities said.
