Dover man charged in church burglaries

WOODSIDE — A 30-year-old Dover man was arrested in connection with a series of alleged burglaries to churches and several commercial businesses in the Woodside area, police said Thursday.

The Delaware State Police said they investigated 13 reports of churches and commercial business break-ins from Aug. 3 through Tuesday. Incidents were reported throughout Felton, Magnolia, Dover and Woodside, according to authorities.

During the crimes, police said, money and food items were removed. As the detectives continued to look into the rash of burglaries, information received connected Jason L. Faulkner as the suspect, police said.

Additionally, Mr. Faulkner had an active warrant from Sussex Halfway House reference absconding from Level 4 Probation.

On Thursday at approximately 3:30 a.m. troopers in the area of Woodside observed a suspicious subject prowling in the area of Arby’s. The person, who police later ldentified as Mr. Faulkner, was pushing a wheelbarrow and in possession of a backpack which contained items of stolen property from the multiple burglaries as well as burglar tools, police said.

Charges included 11 counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree attempted burglary, theft over $1,500, eight counts of theft under $1,500, 12 counts of criminal mischief Under $1,000 and 11 counts of possession of burglar tools.

Mr. Faulkner was arraigned through Justice of the Peace Court 7 in Dover and committed to the Department of Correction in lieu of $88,000 cash bond.
