WYOMING — An approximately 10-mile police pursuit ended with the felony arrest of a 28-year-old Dover man on Jan. 28, police said in charging documents.

Tyree J. Clark, of the 2000 block of Lockwood Chapel Road, was taken into custody without further incident at his residence, a Wyoming Police officer wrote in a probable cause affidavit.

The alleged incident unfolded at approximately 5:52 p.m. when a police officer performing traffic enforcement in the area of Front Street and Layton Avenue witnessed a vehicle traveling 38 mph in a 25 mph zone.

The officer said he activated emergency lights and hit is siren repeatedly after pulling behind a 1993 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight with Delaware registration, according to papers.

During the chase, the officer reportedly saw the driver with a cell phone in his right hand and slightly in front of him, and allegedly saw the screen light up.

The driver traveled from Front Street onto New Burton Road, leaving Wyoming Police jurisdiction for Dover’s town limit, the officer said.

The officer continued to follow with emergency lights and siren engaged, turning onto South Saulsbury Road approaching Del. 8 in the middle lane, authorities said.

Several other vehicles were in the vicinity, and one had to hit its brakes to avoid hitting Mr. Clark’s Oldsmobile, police alleged. The car traveled across a concrete median, traveling northbound in a southbound lane, the affidavit read, with oncoming traffic veering out of the way.

The vehicle turned onto Del. 8 westbound before stopping at his residence.

A felony disregarding a police officer signal charge resulted, along with misdemeanor reckless driving, aggressive driving, and failure to carry required insurance. Traffic violations included possession of registration card, speeding in a residential district, overtaking a vehicle, traveling on a one-way roadway, and a cell phone citation.
