DOVER — A 42-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder for a June 22 incident that left a Clayton man dead.

Timothy Safford, last known to be living in Dover, was taken into custody Monday by the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force. Mr. Safford was arrested without incident in Washington, D.C. and is currently being held pending extradition to Delaware.

According to the Dover Police Department, he was involved in an argument with 41-year-old Sylvester Lee at Liberty Court Apartments last month that led to Mr. Safford fatally shooting Mr. Lee.

The incident occurred at night, with officers responding at approximately 9:41 and Mr. Lee being taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, where he died about 30 minutes later.

Mr. Safford is facing charges of first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and two counts of possession of firearm/ammunition by person prohibited.
