DOVER — After her contract expires June 30, Dover High School Principal Dr. Evelyn Edney won’t be out of a job long.

Dr. Edney is poised to start work as director of Early College High School, officials at Delaware State University announced Tuesday.

Capital School District board members also met Tuesday to hold interviews for a new Dover High School principal.

Board president Kay Dietz-Sass said Wednesday that they asked Dave Vaughn, the district director of human resources, to repost the position.

Board members had voted down Superintendent Dr. Michael Thomas’ recommendation to renew Dr. Edney’s contract at their meeting in November.

Early College High School is a tuition-free, public charter school at Delaware State University in Dover that allows students to get a head start on college by earning up to two years of transferable credits.

“Dr. Edney thoroughly understands and appreciates secondary education because of her visionary and contemporary leadership in several teaching and administrative positions in secondary schools in Delaware for the past 24 years,” said Dr. Alton Thompson, who chairs the school’s board of directors, in a prepared statement.

Dr. Thompson is also the provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Delaware State.

“In addition, she has worked with intensity, passion and design thinking to create a strong school community that motivates teachers and staff to ensure student achievement,” Dr. Thompson said.
