DOVER — On Tuesday, Dover Police said investigation continues after a man was admitted to a hospital in critical condition after allegedly being shot twice within two hours last weekend.

Two arrests have been made — brothers Johnson and Alex Joseph — after an alleged incident that involved a .40 caliber handgun that wounded a 20-year-old Dover man on Friday night, authorities said.

With the assistance of the Smyrna Police Department, the Dover Police Department arrested the Josephs without incident at their residence in the first block of Freedom Drive at approximately 6:15 a.m. Saturday, police said in court papers.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Smyrna and Dover police Special Operations Response Teams were used during the apprehension.

With a search warrant, police said in papers, a vehicle search was conducted and allegedly located a .40 caliber Hi-Point semiautomatic firearm, along with .40 caliber ammunition. The vehicle was registered to a Joseph family member, and found to have been purchased for the brothers to use, according to court documents.

During prior investigation, police said in documents, seven spent .40 caliber shell casings were collected in the Hamlet neighborhood on Old Forge Drive, and another between buildings on 970 and 986 Whatcoat Drive.

According to court documents, investigation found that a man was shot multiple times at approximately 11:10 p.m. outside of 986 Whatcoat Drive, including a wound to the upper torso/chest. Authorities said the man went inside an apartment, “called 911 (and) then collapsed from the injuries sustained from the gun shot wound to the chest.”

Earlier, police said, it was found that the man was shot at approximately 9:45 p.m. and suffered a graze wound to the leg in an alleged incident in the Hamlet neighborhood on Old Forge Drive.

Johnson Joseph, 19, was charged with first-degree attempted murder and first-degree conspiracy.

Alex Joseph, 22, was charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree conspiracy, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, second-degree assault and first-degree reckless endangering.

Police would not disclose any details regarding a possible relationship among the involved people.
