EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Bridgeville-owned Iron Mine Buckey will start from Post Position 8 in the first of two eliminations today for the prestigious Hambletonian at the Meadowlands.
The 3-year-old trotter Iron Mine Bucky, owned by Bud Carter of Bridgeville and trained by Greg Haverstick, has morning line odds of 15-1.
He will be driven by George Dennis of Harrington.
Also on the card is Houston-owned and -trained Wiggleit Jiggle It, the 2015 Horse of the Year. George Teague’s pacer is the second choice in the morning line in the U.S. Pacing Championship,
The Hambletonian format calls for two $70,0000 eliminations on the same day as the $1 million final, the 13th race today.
The top five from each of the two nine-horse eliminations will advance to the final.
CBS Sports Network will show the final live during its 4-5:30 p.m. broadcast.
The U.S. Pacing Championship and Hambletonian Oaks also will be featured.
First race post time on Hambletonian Day is noon. Locally, Harrington Raceway and Dover Downs will simulcast the races.
Iron Mine Bucky has won five of 16 career races and earned $167,756. Last year, his victories included divisions of the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes and Keystone Classic. This year, he won a division of the Currier & Ives Stakes. His best this year was a mile in 1:55.2.
On July 16, the colt was third in a division of the Stanley Dancer Memorial, finishing behind highly-regard Hambletonian contenders Marion Marauder and Bar Hopping.
