DOVER — Wednesday’s scheduled final case review for a former Caesar Rodney High School teacher and wrestling coach indicted after an alleged sexual relationship with a female student in 2014 might be delayed.
The defense for Richard L. “Dickie” Howell II requested a continuance for the review last week and the matter was still pending, the Delaware Department of Justice said Monday.
A jury trial had been scheduled to open Sept. 8 in Kent County Superior Court.
On April 30, Mr. Howell, 51, of Wyoming, pleaded not guilty to 43 counts of first-degree sexual abuse of a child by a person in a position of trust, authority or supervision, and seven counts of sexual solicitation of a child.
Mr. Howell is represented by lawyer Alexander Funk; Deputy Attorney General Kathy Dickerson is prosecuting the case for the state.
Mr. Howell was indicted by a Kent County Grand Jury in early April. He resigned from the Caesar Rodney School District three days later.
