Sunday proved to be a big day for the Delaware women’s basketball team,

Not only did the Blue Hens pick up just their second win in their last seven games but they gave coach Tina Martin her 400th career victory with a 73-56 win at Hofatra.

Tina Martin

In her 21st season at Delaware, Martin became the fifth coach in school history to reach 400 career victories. Other Blue Hens coaches who have earned at least 400 wins include Bob Hannah (baseball; 1,053 wins from 1965-2000), Barb Viera (volleyball; 683 wins from 1973-99), B.J. Ferguson (softball; 622 wins from 1981-2010) and Jim Sherman (baseball; 443 wins since 2001).

“A lot of people worked really hard (for win 400),” said Martin.

“This is a team sport and this isn’t for one person. This accomplishment is attributed to the hard work that some terrific coaches and players have put in throughout the years. They really established such a great winning tradition for Delaware women’s basketball.

“I bleed blue and gold; I love this place. It’s a proud moment for this women’s basketball program and I’m very proud of my players and staff over the past 21 years.”

Sophomore Nicole Enabosi registered a career-best 24 points while junior Makeda Nicholas posted a career-high 19 points for Delaware (2-3 CAA, 8-8 overall).

Enabosi added 12 rebounds for her third straight game with a double-double and her eighth overall on the year.

Down 33-29 at halftime, the Hens made a run late in the third quarter and took a 54-47 lead. Delaware wouldn’t look back and eventually outscored the Pride, 19-9, in the final quarter.

Erika Brown added 10 points, six rebounds and six assists in the win.
