Rep. Bill Carson, center, joined by President Dave Skocik and Vice President Paul Davis, and other legislators deliver a tribute to the Delaware Veterans Coalition on its fifth anniversary at the Old State House on The Green in Dover on Wednesday.

With the slogan “Veterans are our only business,” the Veterans Coalition is a non-profit, non-partisan, pro-bono lobbying organization that works with Delaware’s elected officials and community leaders on issues affecting all generations of Delaware veterans. Although created with the unique mission of lobbying at the State level, the Coalition also regularly works with federal officials on behalf of veterans.

With a representative in each of Delaware’s three counties, the Coalition has engaged in many public activities, including lobbying for the creation of the Delaware Veterans Trust Fund, which was eventually passed and placed under the Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs. The Veterans Coalition then created the Friends of Delaware Veterans Inc., as the official fundraising organization of the Veterans Trust Fund and continues to support its efforts.

The Veterans Coalition additionally participates in many public events and projects, including the Dover Mayor’s Veteran Homelessness project; the annual Wreaths Across America event at Legislative Hall; the dedication of veterans memorials for the state; three annual ceremonies at the Kent County Veterans Memorial Park; and other events for state and local organizations as requested. Its website at www.DelawareVeteransCoalition.com lists opportunities for veterans and provides a free link to all legislation concerning Delaware Veterans.
