DOVER — Budding entrepreneurs enrolled in two summer camp programs on the Delaware Technical Community College Terry Campus recently took part in some hands-on business projects and raised nearly $1,000 for local charities and summer camp scholarships.
Designed to provide insight into the foundation of skills and education needed to start and operate a business, the camps included projects that took participants through the basic steps of creating a business — coming up with an idea or product, creating the product, marketing the product and selling the product.
Four teams of students from “The Apprentice, Charity Style” specialty camp were tasked with selecting a charity, electing a group leader and creating materials to promote their specific fundraising campaign.
Chick-fil-A in Dover then permitted the teams to set up stations outside the restaurant to share with patrons information about the project and the selected charities. Over the course of two days, the groups raised $861 for their selected local agencies.
Participants in the “Future Entrepreneurs” day camp created a business that sold crafts and baked goods. They created the items themselves and then made tri-fold display boards to market and promote a sale before setting up a shop in the lobby of the main building on campus. They raised $131.25 that will be put toward scholarships for next year’s summer camp.
Summer camps are annually offered by the Delaware Tech Terry Campus through the Youth Programs division of Workforce Development and Community Education.
