EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — The state of Delaware will send out a powerful roster of pacers in the 32nd annual $5.8 million Breeders Crown this weekend at the Meadowlands Racetrack.

Always B Miki, bred and co-owned by Joe Hurley of Wilmington, is coming to the $421,000 Breeders Crown for older pacers as the event’s defending champion and is the 6-5 morning line favorite.

He is the fastest horse in harness racing history thanks to his win in 1:46 for the mile, set Oct. 9 at The Red Mile in Lexington, Ky.

One of the few horses to beat Always B Miki this year is also Delaware-owned, by George Teague Jr. of Harrington. Wiggle It Jiggleit, the 2015 Horse of the Year, is the second choice in the race at 8-5.

Wiggle It Jiggleit is currently first in the Top 10 national harness racing poll, with Always B Miki second.

The horses have met seven times, with each taking three wins and Shamballa beating both of them once.

Always B Miki will be driven by David Miller, starting from post four.

“You don’t get horses like this for long, and it’s definitely emotional to be around him,” said his trainer, Jimmy Takter. “I can’t wait to see him as a stallion. His personality and everything about him will be well-received through the sport. He’s not the easiest horse because he had a lot of injuries (two that required surgery), but what this horse overcame every single day, nobody else did.”

Wiggle It Jiggleit, trained by Clyde Francis and driven by Teague’s son, Montrell, starts from post seven and is coming into the race with a three-race win streak.

Other Delaware-connected horses are Roaring To Go, 2-year-old pacing filly who won her Breeders Crown elimination race and starts at odds of 7-2 from post five in the $600,000 final, to be held Saturday night at the Meadowlands.

She is owned by Frank Chick of Harrington and trained by Kevin Lare. Roaring To Go is coming into the Breeders Crown with her regular driver Brett Miller and a three-race win streak, along with $252,636 in earnings.

Newborn Sassy, a 3-year-old pacing filly, is co-owned and trained by Jo Ann Looney-King of Harrington. She also won her Breeders Crown elimination race last weekend and will compete on Saturday night from post four at odds of 8-1 with driver Tim Tetrick.
