DOVER — Fishing and hunting and boating … oh my! Looking for a way to feed your hunger for outdoor activities? The Delaware State News is introducing a new event designed for outdoor enthusiasts. The Delaware Outdoor Expo will be held Saturday, March 11, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington. This event will showcase hunting, fishing, boating and other outdoor activities enjoyed along the East Coast.

Baker’s Power & Turf/Husqvarna Group from Millsboro, a sponsor of the event, will have two key displays featuring their Husqvarna outdoor power equipment so visitors can see the equipment firsthand. For more information about Baker’s Power & Turf and Husqvarna, visit www.bakerspower.com.

Rich King from delaware-surf-fishing.com also will be featured at the event. Mr. King is a local surf fishing expert, social media celebrity and Outdoors columnist for the Delaware State News. In addition to helping put together the event, Mr. King will be on hand to swap stories and share his expertise on Delaware surf fishing.

Vendors will be on hand to showcase lures, tackle,  decoys, game calls, surf and fly fishing merchandise, archery, taxidermy, apparel, charter boat trips, paddleboards, and services for dogs, such as trainers, collors and leashes and more.

In addition, eight food trucks will offer full menus, with everything from Nathan’s Hot Dogs to Greek cuisine, Cajun delicacies and classic American fare.  Fifer Orchards will bake their apple cider donuts on site.

Charles Messina with Competition Game Calls will present a short seminar at the Delaware Outdoor Expo on calling and hunting wild turkeys. Mr. Messina is one of 12 speakers/demonstrators that will be presenting at the event. (Submitted photos)

The current list of speakers and demonstrations includes Harry Aiken on Delaware Surf Fishing, “Good Dog!” People Training by Eugenia Thornton, paddleboard fishing by Delmarva Board Sport Adventures, wild turkey calling and hunting by Competition Game Calls, basic dog training by Peterson’s Positive Pups and an introduction to kayaking by Chris Erby with Delaware Paddlesports.

Sporting breeds have gregarious personality traits that make them great in the field but can cause problems in the home and community. Eugenia Thornton with “Good Dog!” People Training and her dog Dolly will share tips on how to capitalize on your sporting dog’s natural abilities and turn them into a great companion.[/caption]

Plus, there will be some great door prizes that all attendees 18 and older will be eligible to win including a Tracker Topper 1036 Jon boat from Carlisle’s Marine, a weekend stay at a Killen’s Pond cabin from Delaware State Parks and many more.

Sponsors, vendors and speakers are still signing up, so the list of activities and vendors is to grow. If you are interested in being a sponsor or vendor, contact the Delaware State News at dsnevents@newszap.com or 302-741-8200.

Tickets for the event are on sale on Eventbrite, search for Delaware Outdoor Expo.  They are $5 each and children 12 and under are free.  All online ticket purchases will receive two additional door prize entries.  You can get more information and updates on the website www.DelawareOutdoorExpo.com or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/DelawareOutdoorExpo.
