Delaware Farm Bureau Foundation launches Ag Lab visits

Posted

CAMDEN — The Delaware Farm Bureau Foundation kicked off another summer season with the Ag Lab during the annual Strawberry Festival in May at Bobola Farm & Florist in Dover.

The Ag Lab will frequent Boys and Girls Club summer camps, exhibits and special events throughout the state during the 2021 season.

The Ag Lab is a traveling classroom that serves to educate young people about farming and agriculture.

It is an educational tool that allows kids to see the different aspects of agriculture and try it out for themselves. The Ag Lab also teaches the importance of farming and the effects it has on our community.

In a 30-minute session, children learn about healthy eating, complete a hands-on planting activity and find out how food gets from the farm to their lunchbox. They are also given information to help them consider choosing agriculture as a future career possibility.

“We’re excited to bring the Ag Lab back out into the community so kids can get that hands-on experience with agriculture again,” Delaware Farm Bureau Foundation Coordinator Kali Voshell said in a prepared statement. “Sometimes, our Ag Lab is the first exposure a child might have to the industry. We take that responsibility to heart. We are looking forward to a busy summer filled with new experiences and smiles.”

This year, the Delaware Farm Bureau Foundation’s Ag Lab will also be at the Delaware Chicken Association Booster BBQ at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington June 18 and the First State Antique Tractor Pull at the Laurel Farmers Market June 25 to 27.

The Delaware Farm Bureau Foundation projects it will be able to reach over 3,000 kids in the summer of 2021. For more information on the Ag Lab, visit the Delaware Farm Bureau website or the Delaware Farm Bureau Foundation Facebook Page.
