Delaware Community Foundation awards $71,300 in specific interest grants

DOVER — This year the Delaware Community Foundation has awarded $71,300 in specific interest grants to 13 nonprofits around the state.

Specific interest funds — created by donors to support issues they are particularly passionate about — provide grants for nonprofits and programs that work within specific areas of activity or populations, a news release states. The grants also are allocated to programs currently focused on arts in Wilmington, fulfillment of terminally ill children’s wishes, and training and treatment of animals.

This year’s recipients that support arts in Wilmington are:

The Choir School of Delaware received $2,500 to support its Reach for the Stars weekday summer camp.

The Wilmington Children’s Chorus received $2,300 to support necessary materials for its “Singing Through Summer” initiative.

The Delaware Contemporary received $2,500 to support the Platform Gallery, a public art initiative.

The Delaware Art Museum received $2,500 to support its Family Day event, to be held in the fall of 2021.

The Latin American Community Center received $2,500 to support ArtAddiction.

This year’s recipients that support fulfillment of terminally ill children’s wishes are:

Make-A-Wish received $7,500 to enable more of Delaware’s critically ill children to receive wishes.

Preston’s March for Energy received $7,500 to fund adaptive bikes to children with developmental disabilities.

This year’s recipients that support animals and animal welfare are:

Forgotten Cats received $7,500 to support high volume trap-neuter-vaccinate-return in Sussex County.

Faithful Friends Animal Society received $7,500 to support operation costs for the Free Pet Food and Supply crisis prevention program.

Friends of Animals received $7,500 to encourage the humane treatment of animals in Delaware.

Southern Delaware Therapeutic and Recreational Horseback Riding Inc. received $7,500 to support the training of therapy horses.

Canine Partners for Life received $7,500 to assist in the training of professionally trained seeing eye dogs and service assistance dogs.

Keystone Service Systems DBA Susquehanna Service Dogs received $6,500 to provide support services in connection with the placements of service dogs.
