DOVER — An early morning car chase Tuesday ended near south Camden with one person injured and the suspect in custody, Dover police said.

Dover Police Department “made contact” with a suspect Tuesday morning near Dover High School and pursued a vehicle across town, police spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said.

The chase ended around 9:30 after about 20 minutes and left one person injured.

Police originally responded to an alleged domestic dispute. The suspect then fled, stealing a truck from a construction site, police said.

The driver led police through back roads and onto DuPont Highway, Cpl. Hoffman said.

In the process, two accidents in Dover and one in Camden occurred. A white van was badly smashed up after being struck in Camden, and the Camden-Wyoming Fire Company was called to help clean up the wreckage.

One person was taken to Kent General Hospital with neck and back injuries, Cpl. Hoffman said.

A witness said he followed the chase up and down DuPont Highway after almost being struck by the vehicle.

Lawrence Whitt said the driver wrecked near Walmart Drive in Camden and he was concerned someone might have been hurt.

Mr. Whitt said the driver ran him off the road and he observed him going at a high rate of speed. He said he saw a large number of police cars following the suspect.
