FELTON — A 29-year-old Camden woman was arrested on prostitution, drug and resisting arrest charges Saturday after a high speed chase and crash in a farmer’s field that ended in a foot pursuit, police said in court papers.

Letiticia M. Marshall, of the 400 block of Banning Road, was apprehended while running in the Pinehurst Village neighborhood, Delaware State Police said. The pursuit had began with contact in a field on Fox Chase Road at approximately 6:53 p.m.

Earlier, authorities said in papers, Ms. Marshall was seen driving a vehicle that pulled away from a trailing police car while traveling approximately 85 mph on Fox Chase Road.

Police initially investigated a suspicious vehicle report “where a white pickup truck and a dark colored sedan were seen parked on a dirt road in a field,” according to a probable cause affidavit.

An officer arrived at the scene and a man described as a defendant whose name was redacted in court papers answered, “we were just messing around” when asked what was going on, police said.

A black Chevrolet Cavalier pulled up to the truck, police said, and a driver later identified as Ms. Marshall stated “she had to go somewhere” before a police officer ordered her to ‘Stop, you aren’t going anywhere.’

“(Ms. Marshall) then stated sorry and accelerated her vehicle past my position.”

An officer said he entered his fully marked patrol vehicle as a chase began. Eventually, authorities said in papers, Ms. Marshall lost control of her vehicle at Fox Chase and Barrett’s Chapel roads before stopping in a farmer’s field while leaving ruts in the grass.

“(Ms. Marshall) ... continued to flee from me on foot until she jumped into the bed of a red pickup truck that was passing by and headed (northbound) on Fox Chase Road,” the police officer said in the affidavit.

Police pursued the red pickup truck before an apprehension was made, authorities said.

During investigation, police said, Ms. Marshall said she fled because of a capias “and did not want to go back to jail.”

According to documents, the encounter was among friends, Ms. Marshall told police, and she “stated the man gave her money because he is her friend, but denied performing a sex act for money.”

Earlier, a person in the vicinity said Ms. Marshall “would have sex with the individual for money and she had given her rides to this location a total of three times,“ according to the affidavit.

Also, police said in papers, further investigation led to the discovery of “two hypodermic needles, a glass stem with burnt residue, a metal spoon with trace amounts of a white/cream colored substance which is consistent with heroin use.”

Charges included felony disregarding a police signal, misdemeanor driver’s license suspended/revoked, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and prostitution, and traffic violations unsafe speed and two failure to stop at stop sign counts.

After arraignment at Justice of the Peace Court 7 in Dover, a preliminary hearing was scheduled for April 22 in the Kent County Court of Common Pleas.
