DOVER — A 34-year-old Dover man was found allegedly possessing heroin and a loaded handgun after a large fight at a restaurant early Saturday morning, authorities said.

According to the Dover Police Department, a handgun was displayed during what was described as a “large” brawl at the Hollywood Diner at 2:24 a.m. Dispatchers alerted officers responding to the scene at 123 N. DuPont Highway that a gold Buick had just fled the scene after the display.

In court papers, police said the first officer on the scene saw a tan Buick fleeing the area. A vehicle stop was conducted shortly afterward, police said, and a 9 mm Taurus handgun and heroin were discovered.

In court papers, police said a stop was made at the intersection of North Edgehill Avenue and White Oak Road.

Lewis A. Cobb, of the 900 block of Forest Avenue, was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on an unsecured bond at Justice of the Peace Court 7 in Dover.

According to police in an affidavit of probable cause, a 9mm handgun was “concealed underneath of the driver side floormat.” Authorities alleged that .07 grams of heroin was found stored in a clear plastic bag.

Police said several people at the diner called police as the alleged incident unfolded. The Buick was identified as a vehicle of interest through a call to police reporting a tag number, according to authorities.

It was unknown whether the handgun allegedly was displayed to target a particular person or persons, police said.
