MILFORD — Bayhealth announced last week that its plans for the new Milford campus have been enhanced through a new partnership with Nemours.

Nemours will have its own out-patient facility on the new campus dedicated to both children and seniors who would typically need to drive to Nemours in Wilmington to receive specialized treatment.

The children’s end of Nemours’ location will be staffed with Nemours pediatricians providing a wide range of services while Nemours SeniorCare will focus mostly on hearing and vision services for retirees.

“This is really big news because now residents of Kent and Sussex counties will have access to the best possible care,” Bayhealth President & CEO Terry Murphy said.

The services provided by both Bayhealth and Nemours will offer a much more diverse, technologically advanced and expansive experience compared to what the community can currently access at Milford Memorial, he said.

Mr. Murphy said the partnership is mutually beneficial because Bayhealth is trying to make the Milford campus experience one of the highest quality in the state by offering a variety of top-notch services while Nemours was searching for opportunities to expand.

“Our relationship with Bayhealth is one of professional collaboration in pursuit of a larger goal – to give Delawareans access to the best possible care, in their communities, no matter their age,” said Brent R. King, MD, Enterprise Vice President for Nemours and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.

All patients of both organizations will have their medical information stored on Epic, an electronic health record software to improve the two organizations’ approach to comprehensive care.

Not only will records be accessible to medical staff at the institutions, patients will also be able to see their own medical documents and history through the system as well, officials said.

Bayhealth’s state-of-the-art Milford campus will sit on 165 acres along Route 1. With the addition of Nemours, the infrastructure will consume about 305,000 square feet. The Nemours facility is expected to be completed in 2018 and Bayhealth’s facilities will open in early 2019.

In addition to the main hospital including all private rooms and an Emergency Department, the campus will also be home to physician offices that include primary care, specialists and diagnostic testing.

“This is the biggest reinvestment by any business in Sussex County, Mr. Murphy said. “We are reinvesting $300 million for the new health campus and it’s something that will benefit all residents of southern Delaware.”
