Polytech High boys’ lacrosse player Sam Slater was voted this week’s Athlete of the Week. The senior attack tallied 25 goals and six assists as the Panthers won four games in a row after an 0-3 start.
The fourth member of his family to play lacrosse for Polytech, Slater has 97 goals and 26 assists in his career. He’ll continue his playing career at NCAA Division II Chestnut Hill College, where the academic all-conference student is planning to study psychology.
“Sam Slater is the most complete lacrosse player we have had come through our program,” said Panthers’ coach Bob Gilmore. “He is one of the most team-centered players I have ever encountered. He is constantly trying to help younger players improve.
“Sam has been an excellent role model and teacher both in practice and during games. Prior to this week we were an 0-3 team. Sam has worked tirelessly to help ‘right the ship.”
