All of the No. 1 overall seeds moved on after the first day of the DIAA state individual wrestling tournament on Friday night, hosted by Dover High.

The semifinals will take place today at Dover at 11 a.m. with the finals scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. start time.

Ten of the 14 top seeds are from the Henlopen Confernece. There are 36 downstate wrestlers still alive.

That list includes some wrestlers gunning for multiple state titles in their careers. Caesar Rodney High’s Cam Hayes used a pair of technical falls to advance as the top seed at 120 pounds. Hayes, a junior, won a state championship in each of his first two high school seasons.

Smyrna High’s Tony Wuest recorded two quick pins at 195. The top seed and one-time state champion needed just 13 seconds to get the pin in his quarterfinal match.

Another Smyrna wrestler, senior Chase Archangelo is aiming for his third consecutive state title. He is the top seed at 145 pounds and won both of his matches via pin on Friday.

Cory Lawson of Cape Henlopen is the other top seed who is a defending title-winner. He made it to the semifinals at 160 with a pin and a technical fall.

Other former state champions still left in the field include Smyrna’s Greg Baum (132), Sussex Central’s Brandon Bautista (160) and Smyrna’s Larsen Wilson (170).

Cape Henlopen and Smyrna are tied with the most wrestlers remaining with eight apiece.

Smyrna has Nick Natarcola (120), Cole Sebastianelli (126), Baum, Archangelo, Nate Bryant (152), Wilson, Hunter Moyer (182) and Wuest in the semifinals. Still alive for Cape Henlopen are Anthony Caruso (120), Max Norquest (132), Vincent Diego (138), Zeke Bean (145), Dante Jacquet (152), Lawson, Chris Handlin (170) and top seed Zach Flores (285).

Sussex Central, the team dual meet champion in Division I, has seven wrestlers in the semifinals. That includes top seeds Blake Chambers (170) and Lucas Hudson (182) as well as Javon Saffold (106), Yony Garcia (113), Rashad Stratton (126), Bautista and Johnny Morris (220).

Caesar Rodney High has three left with freshman Jackson Dean (132) joining Hayes as a top seed in the semifinals. Mike Primo also advanced for the Riders at 106 pounds.

Anthony Fisher of Dover is the top seed at 138 and had a pair of pins in is first two matches. Tykwan Joyner also moved on for the Senators who are hoping to have an individual champion for the first time since 2005.

Milford advanced three wrestlers — No. 1 seed Robbie Rosser (113), Dom Hovington (220) and Bryan Wynes (285). Indian River and Sussex Tech each have a pair of wrestlers still alive, Will Rayne (106) and Zeke Marcozzi (285) for the Indians and Robert Van Pelt (195) and Jamie Schirmer (285) for the Ravens.

Polytech’s Avery Mayan had two second-period pins to be the lone Panther remaining.
