DOVER — After months of training and preparation, the Summer Olympics Delaware’s 50th Summer Games will be held June 11-12 at venues throughout Kent County.
A virtual opening ceremony takes place at 7 p.m. June 11 with Jimmy Hoppa of WBOC serving as the master of ceremony.
More than 350 athletes and unified partners (peers without disabilities) are set to participate in the games, which are being sponsored for the 26th consecutive year by DuPont.
Dozens of coaches have provided training during the past three months in preparation for the athletes’ first competition since the pandemic. In addition, more than 500 volunteers from corporate and venue sponsors and the community helped make the return to play possible.
The venues are DE Turf (hosting bocce), Caesar Rodney High School (track and field), Schutte Park (softball) and Smyrna High School (tennis). Competition runs from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at all locations June 12.
