Willis Thomas 'Billy' Mitchell, 52

BENSALEM, Pa. - Willis Thomas "Billy" Mitchell, of Bensalem, Pa., departed this life at Chandler Hall Hospice Facility, Newtown, Pa., following a short illness, on Monday, Feb. 18, 2008. He was 52.

He was born in Quitman, Ga., on Aug. 4, 1955, to the late Willie J. and Qussie Mitchell.

Billy received his early education at Brooks County High School, Quitman.

After high school, he attended Georgia Southern University on a basketball scholarship, and later received an associate's degree in human services at Delaware Tech, Georgetown.

Billy had a love for basketball and baseball. Before his accident, his desire was to become a professional basketball player.

He was employed with Opportunities for All (Day Reporting Center), Trenton, N.J.

Billy joined Friendship Baptist Church, Lewes, Del., where he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He was a member there until he relocated to Morrisville, where he met and married Mymie Hodges.

In November 2003, he joined True Servant Worship and Praise Center, where his pastor was Bishop E. Earl Jenkins.

Those who loved and knew him dearly called him Billy, Goat and Mitch.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Willie J. and Qussie Mitchell; sister, Charlie Mae Sherman; brothers-in-law, Ernest Bass and Roy Hodges; nephew, Ronald "Manny" Bull; and cousin, John Dasher.

Billy leaves to cherish his loving memories, his devoted wife, Mymie Mitchell of Bensalem; mother-in-law, Deloris J. Hodges of Bowman, S.C.; two sons, Daryl Thompson and his wife Karen of Quitman and Christopher Mitchell of Quitman; an adopted son, Dontae "Goob" Jackson of Cambridge, Md.; two daughters, Myrah Small and Mya Hodges-Snead of Bensalem; three grandchildren, Dartavian Thompson and Hanyah Thompson of Quitman, and Myriah Small of Bensalem; brother, the Rev. Marion Mitchell and his wife Vevlie of Columbia, Mo.; three sisters, Jean Bass of Trenton, Bernice Edwards and her husband Willie James and Hattie Bull and her husband Barry, all of Milton, Del.; sisters-in-law, Annie Hodges of Trenton and Michelle Elmore and her husband Cleveland of Columbus, S.C.; brothers-in-law, Clarence Hodges and his wife Jeanne of Louisville, Ky., DeWayne Hodges and his wife Irene of Orlando, Fla., and Norman Hodges and his wife Ree of Chester; seven special cousins, Willie Lee Seay of Quitman, and Elder Charles Davis and his wife Arlene, Sam Davis, Freddie Davis and his wife Eula, all of Miami, Fla., Ollie Davis of Jonesboro, Ga., Earl Davis of Albany, Ga., and Charles Robinson and his wife Sharon of Colombia, Md.; a special friend, Jamel and Adrianne Jones of Willingsboro, N.J.; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Friendship Baptist Church, Lewes, where friends may view two hours prior.

Burial will be at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
