William Robert Thompson

HARTLY - William "Bill" Robert Thompson passed peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, at Country Rest Home of Greenwood.
He was born on July 10, 1941 to Rueben and Myrtle Thompson in Middletown but grew up in Ridgely, Md. Bill worked as a maintenance supervisor at Kraft General Foods in Dover for 32 years. After retiring in 1996 his favorite hobbies, which he became quite accomplished at, were shooting sporting clays and shooting pool. He also had a lifelong love for dogs and took tremendous joy in his dogs Scooter and Puppy. Bill had a knack for fixing things and solving problems. He was always the first one to jump in and help if anyone was in need. He valued his family and friendships above all else.
Bill will be forever remembered by his long-time companion, Jeannie Ector and her son Brian Ector, his daughter Kimberly Sammons and son-in-law Drew Sammons, Grandchildren Parker Sammons and Cassie Sammons. Sister-Jean Thompson Brothers – Frank Thompson, Joe Thompson, Jimmy Thompson, and brother-in-law Charles Smith.
He was predeceased by his sister Carolyn Smith and infant sons Terry Thompson and William Robert Thompson, Jr.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, Oct. 26, 2018 at Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home in Greensboro at 2 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Greensboro Cemetery.
