GREENWOOD - William R. Chaplin of Greenwood, formerly a longtime resident of Ferndale, Md., died of lung cancer on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2007, at home, after a short illness. He was 74.
Mr. Chaplin was born Sept. 17, 1933, in Baltimore, to the late William A. and Agnes (McLintock) Chaplin.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict.
Mr. Chaplin spent his career as a homicide detective with the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
He was a member of the FOP Lodge 70, Anne Arundel County.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Rae Haegerich and Jeanne Shay.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Clarin Wilder Chaplin; six children; four stepchildren; 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a mother-in-law; a sister-in-law; and a brother-in-law.
Services will be at the convenience of the family at a later date.
Arrangement by Fleischauer Funeral Home, Greenwood.
